5 reasons to buy Lidl’s dahlias

After the successes I had with the bulbs of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils, I am always curious to bulbs, seeds and the plants of Lidl in general. In this article I present 5 reasons to buy Lidl’s dahlias. Curious?
From the middle of winter the dahlia tubers appear available in the stores. Last year I bought a lot of dahlias and I can say that they grew and blossomed a lot.
I was very pleased! A discovery that brightened up a very difficult year of 2020. And now that they have become available again, I decided to share my experience here.
Dahlias come in countless shapes and colors, each more beautiful than the other, making the choice very difficult.
I think the difficulty is really choosing, or limiting our purchases to only the plants that fit in our garden.
Which, when talking about dahlias, becomes even more difficult, since they are typically large plants.

To help me choose, I try to imagine how they combine in color and shape. For example, I like to combine opposite colors like orange with purple or dark red to create a vibrant and dynamic effect.
I also like to create compositions in similar colors. Or combine, for example, white dahlias with dahlias that have hints of white in addition to another dominant color.
Here are 5 reasons why I recommend Lidl’s dahlias:
In this article
Quality of dahlias
The quality of the dahlia tubers is excellent. Except when a lot of people passed by the store and stirred everything, breaking the tubers.
Usually, the packaging is immaculate and more than that, the tubers are healthy and large. It is often even possible to divide them at home and multiply the number of plants right away.
You can easily find reviews from very satisfied people across Europe.
The pictures of the packages are also very faithful to the flowers produced by the varieties. Compare them in this article about the expected dahlia and the flower obtained.
Variety
The available varieties please any taste. There are pompom dahlias, dinner plate, cactus, etc. and of a wide range of colors.
Mixed packages are also a good addition to the cart due to the surprise factor that they bring later. We never know what will come out. I always like to plant something that later feeds this curiosity.
Price
The price of dahlias in Lidl is very low when we look to the quality and variety available.
Furthermore, in dahlias it is very easy to profit even more from this investment.
Unlike some bulbs that will produce well only in the first year, dahlias can last a lifetime.
If well cultivated, the gardener will be able to divide or make cuttings and propagate dahlias for himself and to give to friends.

No diseases
The tubers are sure to come from suppliers with strict quality controls and exemplary phytosanitary conditions.
In dahlias this is very important because of fungal diseases that can quickly decimate a culture completely.
When you buy from a serious supplier, you are more protected against the introduction of diseases in your garden.
They jump into the shopping basket
I often see on social media people sharing photos of shopping baskets full of plants, with the caption “I was just going to buy milk at the supermarket”. They end up bringing more plants than milk.
For people who love plants and gardening it is very difficult to resist and not to bring “just one more” in the middle of the grocery store.
Later we can think of how to explain at home that we bought more plants that don’t fit in the garden.

I hope you found useful information here.
This is not to say that there are no other places as good or better than Lidl to buy dahlia tubers.
But I shared my experience here and must say Lidl‘s dahlias are worth it. Dahlias are flowers that lighten up my garden from summer until the first autumn frosts.
