The jalapeno pepper (from the Spanish Jalapeño) is a plant that produces fruits that are highly appreciated in cooking, due to their spicy characteristics. Jalapeno chilies originate from Mexico and has a spicy level between 2500 to 8000 Scoville. In this article we are going to learn how to grow jalapenos from seeds.
The scientific name of this plant is Capsicum annuum ‘Jalapeño’.
This year I decided to grow some jalapenos from seeds and I will be updating here the complete process until harvesting the fruit.
The first stage is sowing. The seeds are widely available in agricultural stores, plant nurseries and even supermarkets. This package was purchased from Lidl.

I prepare a tray with generic seed compost. Each compartment will receive one seed.

I open the package and carefully pick up each seed and place it in a compartment.
If you have difficulties handling these seeds, use a damp stick, the seed will stick to it and then it will be easier to put it in the right place.

Slightly bury the seeds. Jalapeño seeds, and pepper seeds in general, should not be sown too deeply.

I water carefully so as not to disturb the seeds, cover with a transparent plastic protection and place in a warm and light place.

Now it’s time to wait for the germination that should occur in a few days…
