Astilbe roots or in plant?
Astilbes are easily found on sale in the form of roots. Spring is the ideal time to buy and plant them.
You can also buy the plants already in pots and even in flowering, but it will be more expensive.
I bought this Astilbe Europa root at Lidl.

Notice how it is just a small and ugly piece and that will give rise to such a lush plant.

Planting astilbe roots
I fill a small pot with compost rich in organic matter. Astilbe don’t like the roots to dry out completely and a compost with a lot of organic matter is ideal.
It doesn’t need to be a very big pot. Just enough for the plant to develop in the early stages before planting in the final location.

I put the root in the pot and top up with more compost.
Sometimes it can be difficult to understand which orientation we should plant the roots, try to observe in which direction the roots grow and you will know that this is the side that you should put down.
Finally, I add a label to identify the plant, water and place the pot in a warm and bright place.
