Harvest
The flowers are harvested as soon as they open, cutting almost the entire branch. The essential oil is extracted only from freshly harvested flowers. Leaves can be harvested when needed, but are less appreciated than flowers.
Lavender aromatic oils are extracted since many centuries. They have several applications, from hygiene products, cosmetics and aroma therapy. The dried lavender flowers are also widely used in sachets to put inside drawers and wardrobes, removing insects and perfuming their interior.
This plant grows relatively slowly, and although it will bloom in the first year, flowering is more abundant from the second year of cultivation. Lavender is a perennial plant and can produce well for more than a decade.
